  5. 595,000. There is a cathedral 1892 and the
  6. Pasteur Institute 1908. It stands on Pool
  7. Malebo (Stanley Pool). Brazzaville was
  8. founded by the Italian Count Pierre Savorgnan
  9. de Brazza (1852-1905), employed in African
  10. expeditions by the French government. It was
  11. the African headquarters of the Free (later
  12. Fighting) French during World War II.
